Les Cerisiers, in the small commune of Virollet, is located 7km from Gemozac, which is just 20 minutes south of Saintes in the Charente Maritime department of the Poitou Charente region of SW France.
The towns of Gemozac and Cozes are less than 10 minutes away and provide for all of your daily needs with supermarkets, pharmacies, doctors and newsagents.
We are 25 minutes from the nearest beaches at Meschers, or if you prefer long stretches of golden sand and typical seaside amenities, Royan is just 25km away. The wild, unspoilt and rugged ‘Cote Sauvage’ is about 45 mins drive and is excellent for those who like to get away from the bustle of seaside resort life.
The ancient town of Saintes, which boasts an impressive Roman legacy, is only 20 minutes drive. The town of Cognac is worth a visit, giving you the opportunity to taste a range of cognacs at one of the many world famous ‘houses’ such as Hennessy, Remy Martin or Martell. The beautiful cities of Bordeaux and La Rochelle, with excellent airport access, are approx. 1 hours drive. Both are worth a visit, having superb restaurants, shops and sites.
On a good day the journey from the ferry port of St Malo could take less than 5 hours. The other ports of Caen, Le Havre etc all have good road connections making travel by car relatively simple. Even the route from Calais is manageable in a day.
Directions
From the A10 (Paris to Bordeaux autoroute) take junction 36 (Pons/Royan exit) and head west on the D732 towards Royan/Gemozac. Follow the signs for the centre of Gemozac and at a cross roads with traffic lights and with La Poste on your right, turn left onto the D6 sign posted Mortagne and Touvent. You will pass the main square and the church on your left. Continue out of Gemozac for several kilometres until you reach the hamlet of Le Roc des Aires and where you will see the factory ‘Isidore’. Turn right immediately after a stone bus stop (sign posted Bois Blanc). Drive through the hamlet of Bois Blanc and at the T junction, with a stone wall in front, turn left. After a small woodland area either side of the road you will see the sign for Le Chail. pull in by the black gate as you have arrived!
